“At United Ethanol, we went with the ring dryer system to ensure consistent, high-quality product,” John said, “This quality is important in the whole livestock arena. Because United Cooperative is in the livestock feeding business, quality is very important to us. We do a good job in purchasing high quality corn on the front side.”
Currently, United Ethanol DDG is being sold both locally through United Cooperative,* and in the export market, through Land O’Lakes Purina Feed.
“There really are three major sources of income in the ethanol production,” John said. “Of course the first is the ethanol, and the remainder is CO2 and distiller's grain. Ethanol is the first revenue, but the distiller's is very important because we are generating more than 139,000 tons a year. On the livestock producer’s side, the distiller's represents protein, energy and digestible fiber.”
United Ethanol is in a unique situation. Being interlinked through United Cooperative offers the opportunity to go directly to the farmers, directly to the dealers, or through protein blends produced at United Cooperative facilities.
DDG is available for pick up at United Ethanol, Milton, Wis., or delivered by truck through United Cooperative.
*Wet distiller's grain is available upon request, with a 24-hour notice.
