The carbon dioxide (CO2) liquefaction facility at United Ethanol went online in May, 2008. Through a partnership with EPCO Carbon Dioxide, Inc., headquartered in Monroe, La., approximately 250 tons of CO2 is captured and sold from the United Ethanol facility each day.

In ethanol production, CO2 is a byproduct of fermentation. The CO2 that is recovered through the liquefaction plant will be sold for use in the food processing, beverage, oil recovery, municipal water treatment, and chemical industries.

EPCO Carbon Dioxide Products Inc., was established in 1987 and produces and distributes 2,200 tons per day of food grade liquid CO2. This long-term agreement with United Ethanol will supply the liquid CO2 product to the Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa market area. This is one more opportunity for additional revenue to be realized by United Ethanol’s investors.
